Geocell Price per m² in 2026: 6 Factors That Set the Cost
What drives geocell price per m²? How cell height, weld spacing, wall type, quantity, shipping and quality affect the cost, and how to cut your project budget.
"How much does geocell cost per m²?" There is no single answer. Two quotes for the same slope can differ considerably, and the gap almost always comes down to the six factors below. Our price calculator shows an estimated price for your project in seconds; this article explains what sits behind that number.
1. Cell height
This is the factor with the biggest impact on price. The amount of HDPE strip in one square metre of panel rises in direct proportion to cell height: a 10 cm panel contains roughly twice as much material as a 5 cm panel. Specifying a taller panel than the job needs is therefore a direct cost. As a rule of thumb:
- 5–10 cm: gentle slopes to be vegetated, landscaping
- 15 cm: roads, channels, steep slopes, gravel infill
- 20–30 cm: heavy loads, very weak subgrades, retaining applications
You will find detailed guidance on choosing the right height on our slope protection and road base stabilisation pages.
2. Weld spacing (cell size)
The distance between the weld seams joining the strips determines the size of each cell. The wider the spacing, the less strip is needed to cover a square metre, so the price drops; but larger cells also confine the infill less effectively. Geoser manufactures panels with 330, 356, 445, 660 and 712 mm weld spacing. The calculator default is 356 mm; smaller cells suit loose infill and heavy loads, while larger cells can be used for light slope cover.
3. Wall type: smooth, or textured and perforated?
Textured, perforated walls require extra processing, so they cost slightly more than smooth, non-perforated walls. They are, however, the recommended type for most slopes and roads: the perforations let water flow between cells and allow roots to pass through, while the rough surface grips the infill better. Non-perforated walls are used in certain channel and concrete-filled applications where water must not pass from cell to cell.
4. Quantity
Volume discounts apply on large areas, and the calculator shows the square metre threshold at which they start. Ordering the whole project in one go is usually more economical than buying the same area in batches.
5. Shipping and delivery terms
Geocell is shipped collapsed, so a large area fits in a single truck or container. Even so, fewer square metres of 20–30 cm panel fit into the same volume. When comparing quotes, make sure the delivery terms are the same: ex-works, free on board (FOB) and delivered-to-site prices all differ.
6. Quality
A price that looks too good is usually explained by one of three things: recycled raw material, thin strip or weak welds. When requesting a quote, ask:
- Is the raw material virgin HDPE?
- What is the strip thickness? (1.2–1.5 mm on Geoser panels)
- Has the seam strength been tested, and is there a technical data sheet and test report?
The total project cost is more than the geocell
When budgeting, add the infill (soil, gravel or concrete), anchor stakes, geotextile where required, labour and plant to the panel price. Because infill volume equals area × cell height, choosing the right height also cuts infill cost. On roads and hardstandings, geocell reduces the required aggregate thickness and lowers the total cost on most projects.
4 ways to reduce the cost
- Do not over-specify panel height; choose it to suit the application.
- Measure the area accurately and allow a small margin for overlaps and waste.
- If you also need geomembrane, buy it from the same manufacturer as the geocell, in one shipment.
- State your port of delivery or site address up front so freight can be priced precisely.

Geocell questions
Why does geocell price per m² vary so much between suppliers?
The difference usually comes from cell height, weld spacing, wall type, raw material quality and delivery terms. When comparing quotes, make sure these five points are the same.
What is the most economical geocell?
In material terms, the cheapest is a low-height panel with wide weld spacing. But the choice must suit the application: an under-specified panel on a load-bearing road ends up costing more once repairs are counted.
Does the price on the website include shipping?
The estimate in the calculator is the panel price. Delivery terms and freight are stated separately and clearly in the formal quotation.
Where geocell works
One honeycomb panel confines soil, aggregate or concrete so the infill behaves like a rigid, load-spreading mattress.

Slope protection
Stops erosion on cut and fill slopes and lets vegetation take root.

Load support
Stabilises haul roads, trench beds, rail and soft subgrades with less fill.
